With the recent tragedy that hit Negros, we all have to be prepared in case it struck us again.  I remember my friends telling me horrible stories about how they got out of their school when that earthquake in 1990 shook most parts of Luzon.  They were clearly in a state of panic, unorganized and just plain burst out of the school in any possible way, and that includes climbing out the gate--while in a skirt.

While we all hope earthquake and other environmental catastrophes will never find its way to Capalonga, it always helps to be prepared than caught off-guard.

Here's an article from the internet that could help us understand the things we need to do in case of an earthquake.  Do share it with your loved ones.

"In MOST situations, you will reduce your chance of injury if you:

• DROP down onto your hands and knees (before the earthquakes knocks you down). This position protects you from falling but allows you to still move if necessary.

• COVER your head and neck (and your entire body if possible) under a sturdy table or desk. If there is no shelter nearby, only then should you get down near an interior wall (or next to low-lying furniture that won't fall on you), and cover your head and neck with your arms and hands.

• HOLD ON to your shelter (or to your head and neck) until the shaking stops. Be prepared to move with your shelter if the shaking shifts it around."

A few stuff, if I may have your attention, please.

First of all, let me greet you a HAPPY NEW YEAR!  It's been long too long since your humble blogger wrote something of note here.  I can't say I was too busy (because I am not), but I can see that with the swarm of new members in our facebook page, it's almost unnecessary to write anything anymore, I mean, we all get the info we crave for just by logging in on facebook.  So thank you very much for dropping by to check what's cooking in this page, means a lot to me, promise. =)

Happy 2nd birthday to our facebook pages and this blog.  Seems like it was just yesterday when communication to our dear Kabihugs are limited to text messages and e-mails.  Thank goodness for technology.

Of course, I would not forget that it is Valentine's day today, so Happy Valentine's to everyone of you, let's spread love!

These beautiful pictures, I have posted/pinned in a new website I have discovered fairly recently that I would like to invite you all in to join me.  It's called Pinterest, an online pin-board of everything you just want to take note of, or show off, or just another hobby you can start incorporating in your daily worldwide web visit.

We all wanted to show the beauty of Capalonga to the whole world, yeah?, so what better way than to post pictures of it all over the web for everyone else to see, not just your facebook friends, but also their friends and their friends and their friends, well you know.  Let's just not forget about internet etiquette when reposting/repinning.

Personally, I think, it's a great way to promote Capalonga, so why not try it and see how it'll work for you?  Maybe after two years, we can already create a museum of all the pictures we've pinned in the four corners of the world.

Our little Paradise, a photographer's haven...or heaven, whichever you prefer.

In this new age, taking picture is as easy as 123.  Now we get to snap pictures of relatively anything and show the world our work of art, whether we are a 90-year old texting lola or a huge-lenses-hanging-in-the-neck professional paparazzi or a cool backpack-clad point and shoot beauty appreciating artist.  We use pictures to tell the world how we feel and subsequently influence the world as to what they will feel.

Here is another set of pretty pictures taken in Capalonga.  I am under the impression that this is a Department of Tourism related thing, which is good (I think) because we get to see our little Paradise once again under the spotlight.

Our Pretty Woman

Remember Mercy Malaluan, the girl who put Capalonga on the map by being one of the contestants of Miss Earth 2011?  I heard she even made some places in Capalonga an icon just by standing in it, one example is the road near the Fishport (Dinugmaan) with colorful banners erected at the steep slope; when you see it, Mercy is the first thing that will come to your mind, because she stood there during one of her photo shoots.

Anyway.

Being naturally born beautiful not to mention charming and really exudes femininity, we can't stop her from strutting the catwalk once again, this time as a contestant at Miss World Philippines 2011.

New information about our very own music celebrity

Dominic Gumamela, the Independent Artist of Bicol who is a Batang Buhangin is concentrating on his music career and is doing well in penetrating the music industry.  He recently bagged another opportunity to showcase his talent, a 3rd place in the Himig Barangay Para sa Kalikasan Song writing contest last July. 

But that is not all, our Kabihug has been very busy recording songs supporting his advocacy.  And though he's a very busy person, he promised that he's already doing a Capalonga Hymn, something that we could sing in times of trouble and even in times of triumph, something that would remind us of how we all came from and love Capalonga. 

Cheers to that!

Here's the video of the competition, the original title of the song was 'Ingatan ang Kalikasan", later changed to "Isang Bagong Mundo sa Bagong Milenyo." (If I am not mistaken)

Happy 1st (almost) Birthday!

A year ago, a certain Kabihug posted pictures of our dear Capalonga in his facebook account, little did he expect (I presume) that it will pave the way for Capalonga Facebook accounts and this--the first ever Capalonga Blog.  We've come a long way, from just a handful of seemingly drunk commenting friends in his photos to 1,408 (as of late) members--both young and old. 

We may have had a lot of differences, some are going to the side that the others don't, some like it blatant while some enjoyed it nice and easy.  We may have had arguments, some of them huge and distracting and some are just petty bickering of old time friends...but look at us, we're still here, trying as we might to keep our relationships with each other intact, because we believe, no matter how different our views are, we still have one wish--to be closer to Capalonga, no matter how impossible, no matter how virtual.

Sooo, to celebrate the first year anniversary of our union, here's a picture spam of Capalonga, taken almost 365 days apart.

Thank you everyone for making it such a journey.  We enjoyed all the pictures that you've been sharing; your awesome talents we all wholeheartedly appreciate; the happiness you were able to shower to everyone; and the respect we bestow on each others' differences.  You see, our town is growing, some might have gone awry and destroyed but the ones that stood against time are being painted red (pun intended), cultivated and beautified; and everyone is trying their best to get up and face the reality called life.  No one should be left behind, let's be thankful we live in the generation where communication--no matter how far we are with each other--is as easy as knocking on our neighbors' door, let's make use of this privilege to build relationships or re-build friendships.

You want to see Capalonga 10 years from now?  Or 10 years ago?  Well, you either make your camera your best friend from now on or you better dig into your Nanay's baul.  Either way, it'll help build a picture history of our town, which I bet we'll all enjoy in the years to come.  So go on, don't be shy, tag us in all your master captures, we'll be more than glad to store it for you. 

Which...I would also like to say sorry for not being able to 'steal' all your photos, I apologize, I know I promised but, digging into photo albums of some 1,000+ people isn't that easy, now I know. =D
