Salamat po, Ma'am and Sir

"Teachers, I believe, are the most responsible and important members of society because their professional efforts affect the fate of the earth." - Helen Caldicott

Today is World Teacher's Day, and to thank not only my/our old teachers but today's wonderful second parents too, I posted some pictures that are readily on hand.  It would have been an epic "hail to the teachers, then and now" post if only I have pictures of all our beloved teachers, but that's I think is asking too much, so. =)

As a caption said in one of the murals in a wall of an elementary school along the road toward Capalonga: "Be proud you're a teacher.  The future is in your hands." I say, thank you Ma'ams and Sirs for ensuring we'll have a brighter future.

To the owners of the pictures, thank you so much =) It's always a pleasure sharing these old photos.

Our little Paradise, a photographer's haven...or heaven, whichever you prefer.

In this new age, taking picture is as easy as 123.  Now we get to snap pictures of relatively anything and show the world our work of art, whether we are a 90-year old texting lola or a huge-lenses-hanging-in-the-neck professional paparazzi or a cool backpack-clad point and shoot beauty appreciating artist.  We use pictures to tell the world how we feel and subsequently influence the world as to what they will feel.

Here is another set of pretty pictures taken in Capalonga.  I am under the impression that this is a Department of Tourism related thing, which is good (I think) because we get to see our little Paradise once again under the spotlight.

Pictures above are owned by Mr. Alex Jimenez, find more here.

And these are from Mr. Thomas Tan III, his album is located here.

Our big Thank you! for sharing these to us.

In a related note, did you know that we (Capalonga) also have a tourism facebook page?  Let me just point out that this is under a different administration of course--more government-wise.  Please take time to pay them a visit here to see lots more of images which show how our sleepy town has begun to awake.

And maybe in your next visit home, you can take pictures of YOUR special places in Capalonga, and would share it with us too.

HISTORY: The leaders of Capalonga, then and now.

Today, the new generation relish and bask in what most of us-oldies called future a long time ago.  While it took months before a very single message gets to your loved ones, all it takes today is a cellphone and of course a signal and voila, your "iluvu" gets to its recipient.  If years ago you need to transfer buses due to broken down bridge during storm season, now you only transfer if your air-conditioned van breaks down.  Nowadays, most kids don't need to walk through muddy streets when going to their class, or wake up with a blackish web on their nostrils from using gas lamps at night doing homework.

My point?

It's been forever since the "Capalonga civilization" started.  And if only we could find someone who is willing to share more old pictures of our town, we can start appreciating how far we have gone.

But have you ever wondered who led Capalonga long before you were born? Here is a list of all the municipal mayors we have placed into power since our ancestors and down to our new generation.

Big thank you to the beautiful people of UPCA for coming up with a trivia like this therefore sharing additional knowledge to all of us, and to their President Mr Romy Valles for generously sharing the info to us.

Let's help Mercy win the World

Hello mga Kabihugs!

The time has come again to extend a hand to one of our fellow Kabihugs, Ms. Mercy Malaluan.  I bet most of you are already aware--seeing lots of posts in our wall about this, but just the same, in case you haven't vote, please do it now, and paste the link in your Walls too (if you please) so your other friends could also help.

Here's how:

Please, go to the Miss World Philippines Official Facebook Fanpage here and like it, and then click on Mercy Malaluan's headshot here and click like.  Easy.

Mercy Malaluan is candidate NUMBER 11.

But that's not all, you can also vote (aside from the facebook like) via TEXT and get a chance to win a brand new SMDC Condo unit, nakatulong na tayo, may pag-asa pa tayong magkabahay, win-win!

Please read and follow the instructions below carefully.

(Please click picture to enlarge)

Everyone can vote through Facebook , as long as you have a facebook account, but I believe the text messaging applies only when you're in the Philippines (unless of course if your roaming can send text messages).  But despair not, because you can forward the instructions to your loved ones and ask them to participate in the vote.  After all, Mercy carries not only the province of Camarines Norte but most importantly CAPALONGA.

So don't miss out on this chance to be a part of something wonderful...and beautiful!

Our Pretty Woman

Remember Mercy Malaluan, the girl who put Capalonga on the map by being one of the contestants of Miss Earth 2011?  I heard she even made some places in Capalonga an icon just by standing in it, one example is the road near the Fishport (Dinugmaan) with colorful banners erected at the steep slope; when you see it, Mercy is the first thing that will come to your mind, because she stood there during one of her photo shoots.

Anyway.

Being naturally born beautiful not to mention charming and really exudes femininity, we can't stop her from strutting the catwalk once again, this time as a contestant at Miss World Philippines 2011.

Below are some of her really pretty photos.

Please visit the Ms. World Philippines 2011 website here and like their Official Facebook fan page, there's a votation mechanics that will be published on the 18th of August.  Let's support Mercy once again!

And here's to hoping Mercy will get this fabulous crown and scepter...

Congratulations Mercy, you are already a winner!
